Members of the National Research Council of the Philippines from the Mindanao region convened for the 14th General Membership Assembly and Scientific Conference last 18 November 2016 at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology in Iligan City with the theme “Research Innovation for Inclusive Development in the Mindanao Region.” The convention highlighted paper presentations that delved into the issues confronting Mindanao’s cultural heritage and recommendations were presented to address these issues which include the plight of the region’s indigenous peoples
NRCP officials and academics management officials of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) recently teamed up in a consultative workshop which signaled the outset of collaborative relationship between the two institutions.
The PMA team headed by Col. Joseph P. Villanueva (third from right) consulted NRCP on how to strengthen the research capability of its academic staff and to revitalize its present academic curriculum in response to the revised General Education curriculum of the country. NRCP through its Executive Director Dr. Marieta Bañez Sumagaysay (fourth from right) pledged to continue providing support to PMA in terms of expert advice and deployment of its experts for capacity-building activities of PMA and its academic faculty. The event took place at the PMA Mini-Theater, Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City.
More than 80 research faculty and personnel from different universities in Cebu City participated in the recently concluded NRCP Membership Orientation held at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City last October 25, 2016.
The NRCP, being the premier collegial body of experts and scientists in the country, has intensified its orientation campaign drive to expand its membership by reaching out to the regions for potential member recruits. This initiative is anchored on the mandate of the present administration to boost research activities in the regions by linking together the experts for a more inclusive, multidisciplinary and needs-responsive research culture in the regions.

Six scientists who served as presidents of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) met to discuss the agency’s current state, direction, and plans, in what was described as an unprecedented “powerhouse meeting,” Thursday, 13 October 2016, at the NRCP, Taguig City. The “1st NRCP Presidents Meeting” provided means to exchange ideas, identify areas for improvement, and conceive schemes to attain NRCP’s original vision for the country.
