Taguig City, January 24, 2025 – Dr. Jose Isagani B. Janairo, Editor-in-Chief of the NRCP Research Journal, paid a visit to the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) to join its Journal Secretariat to discuss strategies for the journal’s forthcoming publications and initiatives.
Dr. Janairo, also known as ‘Doc J.I.,’ is a Full Professor at De La Salle University, Manila, specializing in sustainable chemistry, bionanotechnology, and machine learning applications. A United Nations Environment Programme author and recipient of the 2019 ASEAN Youth Eco-Champion Award, he is recognized for his contributions to environmental science.
The meeting focused on ensuring the sustainability of the NRCP Journal’s initiatives, particularly its ISI/SCOPUS indexing application for 2026. Discussions included the influx of manuscript submissions vis-a-vis acceptance and rejection rates, and the promotion of successful initiatives such as AGPCI indexing, the partnership with EBSCO, and Crossref membership—all aimed at
increasing citations and enhancing the journal’s impact. Updates on these developments will be
highlighted during the 2025 Annual Scientific Conference (ASC) and the 92nd General
Membership Assembly (GMA).
The team is particularly optimistic about the growing number of article submissions, which
reflects the journal’s increasing relevance. The NRCP Journal plans to expand its presence on
social media and highlight its research publication milestones to increase visibility. NRCP
Executive Director Dr. Bernardo N. Sepeda proposed utilizing LinkedIn to disseminate the
Journal’s articles, further amplifying its reach.
The NRCP is also working to establish an editorial board composed of international members
representing its 13 Scientific Divisions, which will elevate the journal’s reputation and foster
interdisciplinary collaboration. Dr. Janairo proposed requesting each NRCP Division Chair to
nominate one representative for their respective division, reinforcing the commitment to
maintaining the highest editorial standards and advancing the global visibility of Filipino
research.
Looking Ahead: The 2025 Editors Forum
Planning is underway for the 2025 Editors Forum, following the first held in 2024. This year’s
forum will focus on strategic planning, providing a platform for editors, reviewers, and
contributors to make key decisions on the journal’s new direction and ensure its alignment with
emerging trends in academic publishing and research dissemination.

The NRCP looks forward to the fruition of these plans, reflecting its steadfast commitment to providing innovative solutions and opening opportunities in research dissemination. Through these revitalized initiatives, the NRCP Journal continues to advance the mission of #ScienceForThePeople and align with the goals of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
