NRCP to induct 149 new Regular Members at the 2025 Membership Convention
By Richel Ann Abarico
The National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) will induct 149 new Regular Members of the Council at the upcoming 92nd General Membership Assembly (GMA) on March 13, 2025 at the Philippine International Convention Center. This event also sets the stage for the 2025 Annual Scientific Conference with the theme: “Empowering a Sustainable Future: Science, Technology, Social Innovation, and Human Capital in Global Challenges,” which highlights the essential role of interdisciplinary research, innovation, and the development of human capital in tackling both national and global challenges.
The induction of these 149 new regular members reinforces DOST-NRCP’s commitment to advancing scientific research and fostering collaboration across various fields. As the Council continues to grow, the 2025 General Assembly promises to be a pivotal event, uniting professionals and experts dedicated to creating sustainable solutions for the future.
This batch, approved by the NRCP Governing Board (GB) through an ad referendum, represents the highest number of inductees in the recent years.
To date, NRCP Regular Members constitute about 27% of the total membership of more than 6900 members since NRCP’s establishment on December 8, 1933 by Act 4120. NRCP as a collegial body of the Department of Science and Technology is composed of highly-trained scientists and researchers from various parts of the country whose research works contribute to the development of body of knowledge through pursuing basic research and use of evidence-based research for informed policy decisions.
Regular Members of NRCP can apply for higher research grants or without limit to NRCP for conducting their basic research projects compared to Associate Members who are allowed only P2 million per year of project duration and receive priority under the NRCP Expert Engagement Program. Also, Regular Members have voting privileges and can be nominated to NRCP Board positions and for the prestigious NRCP Achievement Award and NRCP Member Emeritus.
