The Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP), in partnership with the National Youth Commission (NYC), launched a contest on digitized arts on HIV/AIDS awareness campaign for Generation Z or those aged 15 to 24 and students from Grades 10 to 2nd Year College.

The contest was initiated by DOST-NRCP Executive Director Dr. Marieta Bañez Sumagaysay during the Fusion of Science and Arts Forum (FSA V.3): "Enhancing Generation Z' Level of Awareness on HIV/AIDS Through Digitized Arts," conducted as part of the National Science and Technology Week 2019 (NSTW 2019) Celebration on July 17, 2019 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City. Dr. Sumagaysay said that she was inspired by the participation of the Gen Z from different schools in spite of the heavy rains which made schools to cancel classes on July 17. The students also actively engaged with the Resource Speakers showing that they indeed have a big role in HIV/AIDS awareness using digitized arts as their platform.

The contest was carried out in NRCP’s Facebook Page, Research Pod, as the appropriate venue for the Gen Z which ran from July 25 to August 1, 2019.

Participants must illustrate, interpret and emphasize the theme in their chosen digitized art medium “HIV/AIDS Awareness through Digitized Arts” and were judged according to the following criteria:

  • CREATIVITY/PRESENTATION 40%
  • ORIGINALITY 30%
  • RELEVANCE 30%

Three (3) finalists will be selected from all entries, from which NRCP shall choose one (1) grand winner and two (2) runners up (1st and 2nd). The artist of the winning poster will receive a P15,000.00 cash prize and a Plaque of Excellence, while 1st and 2nd runners up shall receive P10,000.00 and P5,000.00, respectively. All finalists will be given trophies and certificates.

Shortlisting of entries will be held on 1 August 2019 and the awarding ceremonies will be held on August 6, 2019, during the Technology Media Conference in Quezon City.

DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Pena, NRCP Executive Director Marieta Banez Sumagaysay, and NYC Assistant Secretary Victor A. del Rosario will award cash prizes, certificates, and trophies to winners at Sequioa Hotel, Timog Ave., Quezon City on August 6, 2019, 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM.
