The National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Visayas Regional Cluster has awarded the three outstanding scientific poster winners during its Annual Scientific Conference and 15th General Membership Assembly on May 29, 2018 at the University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College.

Engr. Juvyneil E. Cartel (4th from left) from the Eastern Visayas State University won the first place for his poster “Experimental Validation of a Performance Model of a Lab-Scale Biofiltration System Utilizing Ulva lactuca (Sea Lettuce).” The second and third places were presented to Dr. Antonio E. Lim, Jr. (5th from left) from St. Scholastica’s College of Health and Sciences for the poster “First Recorded Case in Region VIII of Urinary Tract Infection in a Woman Caused by the Yeast-like Organism Trichosporon asahii,” and Mr. Arvin U. Pacoma (3rd from left) from the University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College for the poster “Are the Levels of Total Mercury in Locally Caught  Tuna from E. Visayas and Commercial Canned Tuna Safe for Daily Consumption?,” respectively. Also in the photo are NRCP Executive Director Marieta Bañez Sumagaysay; Dr. Paciente  A. Cordero, Jr., who served as chair of the Board of Judges; Ms. Leni Yap-Dejeto, co-researcher of Mr. Pacoma; NRCP President Ramon A. Razal and Dr. Mary Jane A. Amar, chair of the NRCP Visayas Regional Cluster.  A total of 19 scientific posters participated in the competition.
