The National Research Council of the Philippines Visayas Regional Cluster is set to conduct its Annual Scientific Conference and 17th General Membership Assembly virtually for the first time on October 20, 2020, with the theme “Research for Public Good.”
This annual convention is a much anticipated event among NRCP members from the Visayas Region which offers opportunities for members to get the latest from breakthrough researches and be able to link themselves with multidisciplinary group of researchers and scientists from the region.
As of writing, NRCP holds a total membership of 4,779, with 440 members from the Visayas Islands. Central Visayas has the highest membership count of 165.
“Since 2020 has brought all of us unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic… this virtual format allows us to still come together to learn, share ideas, and gain insight from the latest research for the Filipino people,” says Dr. Doralyn S. Dalisay, chair of the NRCP Visayas Regional Cluster.
NRCP President Dr. Gregorio E.H. Del Pilar will grace the Opening Ceremonies by a Keynote Message. This will be followed by Plenary Session which will highlight three technical presentations in the fields of social sciences, veterinary medicine, and the environment. The three plenary speakers are Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez from Cebu Technological University on the topic Through Tick and Tin: Research Impacting Animals and the Society; Dr. Arturo E. Pasa from Visayas State University on the topic Enhancing Livelihoods Through Forest and Landscape Restoration; and Mr. Joh Paul J. Petrola from Center for Heritage and Indigenous Cultures, University of San Agustin on the topic Mga Istorya sang Ati sa Panay: Experiences of Disrespect and Struggle for Social Justice.
The second part of the program will be the Business Meeting wherein updates on membership policies and programs will be shared with the members including planning to boost regional activities and enhance research collaboration.
There will also be an oath taking ceremony for the new Associate and Regular Members and an announcement of three winners of the Scientific Poster Competition.
