The Palawan State University (PalSU) completed its first face-to-face meeting with its RD Leader, geoscientist and petroleum industry expert Mr. Almario G. Lasam from May 29 – June 4, 2022 at its main campus in Puerto Princesa City. The visit of Mr. Lasam is part of his engagement under the RDLead program, implemented by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP).

During his first visit at PalSU, he conducted face-to-face trainings of PalSU faculty and students of its Petroleum Engineering Program. He gave them an overview of the local and international petroleum industry as well as training on drilling risks and mitigation among others. In addition, he also checked the facilities and infrastructure at PalSU to identify gaps that can be addressed towards stronger petroleum research.

He also conducted site visits to better discuss and train the personnel on the geological aspect of petroleum research. The visit also opened opportunities for the petroleum engineering students to consult the RD Leader regarding their thesis, with some asking him to be a member of their panel.

PalSU officials, headed by Dr. Elucila M. Sespene, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Jun G. Cayron, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension; and Dr. Marjorie Española welcomed and accommodated Mr. Lasam and the RDLead team during the visit.

Mr. Lasam is a retired petroleum industry expert with more than 40 years of experience in the field of oil and gas mapping, exploration, and drilling.
