Some of the featured faunas during the 3-day science videos showing for elementary and high school students happened on November 25-25

The various fauna of Siargao were the center of the National Research Council of the Philippines’ activities aptly called WORTH MORE THAN GOLD: Siargao’s Biodiversity, in celebration of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW), on November 23-26, 2021. The Council successfully conducted the 3-day event showing science videos on Siargao fauna, which was followed by the first ever Online Quiz Bee (S&T Competition) conducted by the Council for elementary and high school students.

The quiz bee champions are John Grahnel Cruz from Dr. Jose Rizal Elementary School, for the Elementary Division, and Marc Alfred Victoriano from Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School (SRSTHS), for the High School Division. Both of them will receive 10,000 pesos cash and a certificate.

Meanwhile, the 2nd and 3rd prize winners will receive 5,000 pesos and 3,000 pesos and a certificate, respectively.

Julianah Mariey Panganiban from Tuguegarao West Central Elementary School won second place while Chloe Joy Banag from Diliman Elementary School San Rafael Bulacan received third place for Elementary Division.

For High School Division, 2nd place Lara Nicole Herezo and 3rd place Tyrone Ervin Mendoza are also from SRSTHS.

The NRCP project titled, “Assessment, Inventory and Biological Field Surveys of Flora and Fauna of the Mangrove Forests in Del Carmen, Siargao Island” led by Dr. Cecilia B. Moran, member, Division V – Biological Sciences, produced exciting science  videos of fauna of Siargao. The Science videos featuring some of the fauna  of the Siargao, Island were:

  3. Reptiles or COLD BLOODED PALS
  4. Arthropods or LEGGED CRAWLIES
  5. Amphibians or GOGGLE-EYED CRITTERS
  6. Crustaceans or SHELLED CRITTERS
