Last September 1, 2022, the National Research Council of the Philippines of the Department of Science and Technology (NRCP, DOST), in collaboration with Municipality of Del Carmen, Siargao, Surigao del Norte, launched the 21 animated science videos titled, WORTH MORE THAN GOLD: SIARGAO'S BIODIVERSITY at Bayay Numancia, Poblacion, Del Carmen, Siargao.

The Animated Videos

The science video package is composed of 21 animated videos, 3 videos each for the 7 kinds of animals.

Specifically, the videos intend to serve as supplemental learning materials for Grades 4 to 10 science lessons with the goal of enhancing not only the appreciation of the vast, rich, and beautiful Siargao’s biodiversity but also love and care for nature and the environment.

Based on the DepEd Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC), the science concepts and information incorporated in the screenplays of these videos are the most important knowledge and skills required to be attained by the learners after science lessons are completed.

The experts of the Biology Group of the National Institute of Science and Mathematics Education Development (NISMED, UP Diliman) reviewed the scripts of the animated videos to assure the accuracy of both technical and content aspects.

NRCP is set to submit these videos to DepEd-Bureau of Learning Resources (DepEd-BLR) for its possible adoption and utilization of the videos as supplemental science learning materials for Grades 4 -10 science lessons not only in Siargao but across the country as well.

These science videos are produced based on the NRCP research project, Assessment, Inventory and Biological Field Surveys of Flora and Fauna of the Mangrove forests in Del Carmen, Siargao Island conducted by a team of NRCP researchers headed by Dr. Banag-Moran.
