The National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) is set to launch the season finale of its Back to Basic (B2B) on-line science classes on October 24, 2022 with selected Grade 10 students from the public and private schools in cities of Parañaque and Taguig.

B2B season finale will feature selected NRCP members as science teachers who will handle and teach one each of the 7 science lessons. They are: Drs. Maria Victoria O. Espaldon of Earth and Space Sciences Division, Maria Cecilia Galvez of Physics Division, Jonathan Carlo Briones of Biological Sciences Division, Oliver Villaflores of Chemical Sciences Division, Neil Egarguin of Mathematical Sciences, Angelo Earvin Sy Choi of Engineering and Industrial Research, and Mr. Ramon Lorenzo Luis Rosa of Medical Sciences Division.

NRCP science education experts, Drs. Marie Paz E. Morales, Milano O. Torres, Rodney T. Cajimat, based on the DepEd’s Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC), had designed the teaching and presentation methods that will be used by the NRCP’s B2B science teachers towards equipping them with both technical and practical skills in teaching assigned topics in more creative and engaging methods of presentations.  Last August 25 to 26, 2022, a Script Writing and Presentation Workshop was conducted.

DepEd MELC is a guidebook that defines the students' need necessary in the teaching-learning process to build and equip them for the next grade levels and subsequently, for continuous learning.

Dr. Morales, NRCP Governing Board Corporate Secretary, Regular Member, Chair of Division of Governmental, Educational, and International Policies (NRCP Division I), and Director of PNU Publication Office, led and designed the workshop activities.

Dr. Morales along with the two other Associate Members of NRCP Division I, Dr. Torres, Associate Professor of Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology and Dr. Cajimat, Professor of Nueva Vizcaya State University generously shared and discussed the three components of the workshop, namely: 1) Teaching and Learning Approaches; 2) Script Development using 7E Instructional Model/Learning Cycle; and 3) Assessment Techniques for Instructional Videos.

NRCP Executive Director, Dr. Marieta Banez-Sumagaysay, and B2B Trainees and Organizers

On the first day, participants were able to draft their teaching scripts/lesson plans.  They simulated an online video presentation while on the second day, a one-on-one critiquing was conducted to finalize the content of the scripts for the video shoot.

The B2B Season Finale is composed of 7 science lessons that will be broadcast via NRCP official Facebook page, the Research Pod, starting October 24 until December 5, 2022 with Grades 10 students of Parañaque National High School and La Huerta National High School. B2B is a platform for promoting  science culture in the regions for global competitiveness.
