DOST-NRCP Sets Focus on Ethical Science and Capacity Building for Research Communities at Annual Conference, General Assembly
The Department of Science and Technology–National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) will highlight ethical scientific practices and transdisciplinary approaches to strengthen research communities at its 2026 Annual Scientific Conference (ASC) and 93rd General Membership Assembly (GMA) on 13 March 2026 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.
Anchored on the theme “Transdisciplinary Capacity Building and Ethical Research towards a Progressive, Unified, and SDG-Driven Nation,” the conference will explore holistic practices to enhance research competencies, promote ethical practices, and expand partnerships among scientific communities. It will also underscore the role of science in shaping inclusive, accountable, and evidence-based policies to contribute to the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II) will discuss how strengthening transdisciplinary capacities in research communities contributes to national transformation, particularly in education, innovation, and human capital development. Meanwhile, the Committee on Science and Technology will highlight how ethically grounded, evidence-based research informs legislation and supports responsive governance.
A multi-sectoral panel will explore operational aspects of transdisciplinary research, including collaborative capacity building, integration of scientific and indigenous knowledge systems, SDG-focused partnerships, and ethical accountability in research and resource management. Panelists from NRCP, DOST, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and the National Ethics Committee (NEC) will share insights on how these practices build public trust and ensure research informs policy and societal priorities.
Complementing the plenary discussions, asynchronous scientific sessions from universities and national institutions will showcase innovative approaches to pressing national and local development challenges.
The conference will also feature the 2025 NRCP Achievement Awards and Service Awards to recognize individuals whose contributions have advanced scientific excellence, institutional capacity, and national development priorities.
In the afternoon, NRCP members will convene for the 93rd GMA, which will include the induction of newly elected Governing Board members and the welcoming of new associate and regular members. (Rose Dagupen // S&T Media Services)
