DOST–NRCP RDLead Strengthens Capacity to Transform Research into High-Quality Publications
MANDALUYONG CITY, METRO MANILA – The Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP), through its Research and Development Leadership (RDLead) Program, continues to build institutional research capacity by training health professionals to transform outputs into high-quality, publishable scientific works.
On January 8, 2026, a total of 67 employees, including researchers, clinicians, and residents, from the Department of Health–National Center for Mental Health (DOH-NCMH) participated in a training on scientific writing, peer review, and publication at Pag-asa Hall, NCMH.
RDLead Project Senior Technical Specialist Mr. Marfy H. Lita formally opened the program, emphasizing how initiatives like this strengthen researchers’ skills and elevate the quality and impact of scientific output in the Philippines.
Transforming Research into Impactful Publications
Drawing on his extensive expertise in clinical psychology research and publication, RDLeader Dr. Marc S. Reyes led the training sessions. He highlighted the importance of clarity and precision in communicating research findings and introduced the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) as the international standard for structuring manuscripts.
Participants learned strategies for critically analyzing manuscripts, synthesizing evidence, and maintaining objectivity in peer review. Dr. Reyes underscored the vital role of peer review in improving research quality and advancing scientific knowledge.
The workshop concluded with practical guidance on preparing manuscripts for publication. Dr. Reyes discussed journal selection, navigating the peer review process, and complying with ethical standards. He also shared tips to help researchers avoid common pitfalls and increase their chances of successful publication.
DOH-NCMH Epidemiologist Dr. Jesus Emmanuel Sevilleja delivered a brief closing message, expressing his gratitude to Dr. Reyes, DOST-NRCP, and RDLead Program for their support. He noted that the training successfully equipped participants with essential knowledge and skills to enhance the quality, credibility, and impact of their research outputs. (Byron Lei B.
