DOST-NRCP Divisions, Regional Clusters to work on boosting NRCP membership
Heads of the 13 scientific divisions and two (2) regional clusters for Visayas and Mindanao of the Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) commit to working hand in hand with the Council to strengthen membership.
Formalized through a Board Resolution in February 2025, the scientific divisions and regional clusters now take the lead in implementing capacity development (CapDev) activities for members.
To date, NRCP membership consists of 6,926 researchers, scientists, engineers, and artists (RSEAs). The 13 scientific divisions of NRCP are disciplinary groups that organize members based on their expertise and research focus. Each division is led by a Chair, supported by executive officers, who are responsible for developing programs and activities for division members.
Through mentorship programs, workshops, and collaboration, NRCP scientific divisions provide spaces where members can develop their competencies and learn from others across disciplines.
Meanwhile, the Visayas and Mindanao Regional Clusters will concentrate on developing programs and initiatives tailored for members in their respective regions, equipping them to become key contributors to regional research and development and local policymaking.
Starting April 2025, the Divisions and Regional Clusters will submit proposals to NRCP for their capacity development activities under the NRCP Capability Advancement through Scientific Capacity (CASCaDe) Program. CASCaDe is designed to help active NRCP members by continuously upgrading their skills and competencies through specialized training programs, including research proposal writing, research publication, research translation, and intellectual property management, among other key topics.
NRCP, on the other hand, provides financial and logistical support for the implementation of these activities. CapDev activities will take place through both physical and virtual platforms to provide members with relevant support tailored to their research needs. By the end of CY 2025, NRCP targets to conduct at least 15 training activities that will benefit at least 3,900 members.
As the Council looks into the future, the Divisions will remain critical in fostering collaboration and encouraging a shared sense of responsibility among members, helping to cultivate a well-equipped research community in addressing real-world problems. (Richel Ann Aberico)
