We, the members of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), a pioneering organization attached to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), composed of over 4,000 scientists and artists across the country, convey our utmost gratitude, support, and encouragement to all the Filipino healthcare workers—doctors, nurses, medical technologists, carers, hospital staff, orderlies, and other medical frontliners—for their selfless service in the on-going fight against COVID-19.

STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF SOME RECOMMENDATIONS OF “SCIENTISTS UNITE AGAINST COVID-19”
We, the Governing Board of the National Research Council of the Philippines, the country’s first and oldest scientific organization consisting of over 4,000 researchers, scientists, engineers, technologists, and artists all over the Philippines, support the statement issued by the group “Scientists Unite Against COVID-19” calling for an increased and expanded testing for COVID-19 in the country, through the following mechanisms: augmenting COVID-19 testing kits, mobilizing otherwise unutilized qPCR machines, and training and mobilizing scientists with molecular biology and related skills for COVID-19 testing.

CoVID19 halts DOST-NRCP scheduled events
Due to the first local transmission of CoVID19 and the declaration of Code Red Alert Sub-level 1 of the Department of Health (DOH), the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) postponed various scheduled events and activities.
The biggest event of NRCP, the 2020 Annual Scientific Conference and 87th General Membership Assembly scheduled last March 9, 2020 in the Philippine International Convention Center with expected participants/NRCP members of 1,200 from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao was postponed indefinitely per Announcement issued on the eve of March 7, 2020. This is to reduce the risk of further local/community transmission of the virus in the country.
