Division X Chairpersons

Christina A. Binag holds an Academic Rank of Professor at the Chemistry Department, College of Science of The University of Santo Tomas. She finished her BS Chemistry degree at UST (1983) and earned her straight Doctoral degree in Chemistry at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia in 1996. She was the Director of the UST Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences (2007-2013), Director for Graduate Research of the UST Graduate School (2000-2004), the Editor of Acta Manilana (CHED A-1 Journal), the Official Refereed Journal of the UST Science and Technology Research Flagship. Dr. Binag was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship (2006) at Pennsylvania State University under Prof. Thomas E. Mallouk on the “Development of Segmented Conducting Polymer Nanosensors for Environmental Application”. In the field of Chemistry, she was awarded the 2014 Outstanding Achievement Award in Chemistry awarded by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) of the Department of Science and Technology and the 2001 Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) given by National Academy of Science and Technology.

Her research interests are on.
a. Fabrication of Conducing Polymer-Based Chemical Sensors and Biosensors
b. Preparation and Characterization of Composite Conducting Materials
c. Growth of Conducting Nanorods and Nanowires
d. Fabrication and Characterization of Flexible Supercapacitor Electrodes

These brought forward a number of Scientific and Technical Publications published in international and local scholarly journals together with her graduate and undergraduate research advisees. She has shared the output of her researches in numerous conferences and symposia here in the Philippines and overseas.
