Celebrating 92 Years of DOST-NRCP Science and Art

The Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) will celebrate its 92nd Founding Anniversary on 10 December 2025 at the Sheraton Hotel, Pasay City. This year’s celebration, themed β€œRecognizing the Champions of Progress: Merging Artistic Expression and Scientific Excellence,” will highlight how art and science intertwine to foster innovations for national development.

For over nine decades, DOST-NRCP has championed science, technology, and innovation (STI), creating tangible impacts in the daily lives of Filipinos. This anniversary pays tribute to individuals across the 13 scientific divisions whose work has built the organization’s legacy, blending cultural creativity with scientific achievement.

DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., National Artist Virgilio S. Almario, and National Commission for Culture and the Arts Chair Honorable Victorino Mapa Manalo will deliver messages celebrating creativity in science and culture and the role of humanities in strengthening research.

The anniversary will feature cultural performances, creative exhibits, and audio-visual presentations that showcase research in imaginative forms. These will highlight the Council’s achievements and contributions to research advancement and community development. Basic Research Champions from across the country, along with the Council’s institutional partners, will also be formally recognized for their role in advancing research and promoting S&T culture in the regions.

Outstanding Filipino researchers and Council members will be honored with the Gabay Awards for their contributions to policymaking, technological advances, and socially impactful innovation. The Best Paper Award from the NRCP Research Journal will also be conferred, while NRCP personnel demonstrating exemplary service and performance will receive Service Awards and Exemplary Employee Award.

The event will be attended by member-researchers, scientists, engineers, and artists (RSEAs), stakeholders, and the NRCP Secretariat.

The Council was founded on 8 December 1933. This commemoration serves as NRCP’s commitment to advancing science, creativity, and nation-building in service of Philippine progress. (Byron Lei B. Diaz, S&T Media Service)
