Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aguirre Aquino IV, the foremost ally the Department of Science and Technology being the Chair of the Senate S&T Committee, graced the annual NRCP event and reiterated his support to science and technology through his keynote speech entitled “R&D Legislative Directions for Countryside Development”. He emphasized the role of the science community  in pushing for the country’s development.

DOST Secretary Fortunato T. Dela Peña, on the other hand, said that this year’s conference theme, "Policy Research for Legislation,” echoes the urgent call for action to all researchers, scientists and innovation experts to conduct research to influence policy or conduct researches that can be used to gain the support of the public and policy makers to bring about specific policies or policy change in the country through legislations. He also mentioned the latest initiative of Senator Bam Aquino on his recommendation for the institutionalization of the DOST Balik Scientist Program which he signed last March 6, 2018.
