A twenty two-member survey team, consisting of 13 employees from the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) and 9 from Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), led the documentation and assessment of the S&T expositions and conferences mounted by the Department of Science and Technology in commemoration of the annual National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) held last July 24 – 28, 2014 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

With the end-goal of producing substantive qualitative and quantitative data which would show the effects and impacts of the S&T exhibits and conferences to targeted clientele, the survey team, for five straight days, 8am to 6pm, distributed survey questionnaires to and retrieved the same from randomized respondents alongside with the on-the-spot in-depth interviews of representatives from Academe (students and teachers in all levels), Private Sector (entrepreneurs and industry), Government (officials and employees), and DOST Employees.

Dr. Nimfa B. Ogena, who is a Regular Member of NRCP Division of Social Sciences and currently teaching at the Population Institute, University of the Philippines Diliman was commissioned as Technical Consultant of the survey team headed by NRCP Executive Director Carina G. Lao as Chair; and PNRI Director Alumanda M. de la Rosa as Co-Chair.

Dr. Ogena designed the survey materials specifically to cull the views, opinions, and the overall impressions of the targeted audience of the 2014 NSTW exhibits and other related activities. These materials would also gather both quantitative and qualitative data that would describe the weak and the strong points of the said annual event. The said data, when processed, could be used as bases for the drafting of internal policies to improve the conduct of activities related to the celebration of NSTW.

The fielded survey materials would also help establish the new demographic profile of the participants in the 2014 NSTW.

Moreover, selected members of the survey team will be deployed to field the survey materials in the upcoming Cluster Fairs in Southern and Northern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to complete the national documentation and analysis.
